Translating Psalms provides a special challenge: how to convey meaning using poetry, a text form much-loved by Arabs.
Mansi, the poet we work with, is one of the leading poets in the region, as well as a well-known literary critic who is widely read. He wrote the following in September after sending some new drafts of Psalms:
“My greetings and love.
Many thanks for your reply. My heart welcomes any comments, so please do not hesitate to offer them. I have loved this work, even though I had read the Psalms a long time ago, but I returned to them this time with the eye of an “artistic reader”. I have the opportunity to go back to the holy texts, investigating possibly hidden points of similarity between them. The Psalms are pure poetic delight. I send you all my love and esteem.”
